Grand Canyon sunrise tours from Las Vegas

Watching the first light hit the Grand Canyon is a bucket-list moment, but the word sunrise in a tour name does not guarantee you will be there. Here is how to tell the difference.

The Grand Canyon South Rim is about 275 miles from Las Vegas. To be there at dawn you either sleep close to the park or leave Las Vegas in the middle of the night.

That simple fact sorts every sunrise tour into one of three groups.

The quick answer

Only three kinds of tour reach the rim at dawn: the midnight departures from Las Vegas, the overnights that sleep in Tusayan or Cameron near the park, and multi-day loops that schedule an early rim stop. The MaxTour two-day tour sleeps in Page or Flagstaff and does not promise a sunrise.

Which tours actually see sunrise at the Grand Canyon?

The one-day tour that leaves Las Vegas at midnight, Bindlestiff's overnight with a hotel or tent in Tusayan, and the Grand Circle two-day that sleeps in Cameron or Tusayan.

Why doesn't the two-day tour promise a sunrise?

Because night one is in Page or Flagstaff, and the rim is about two to three hours' drive away from Page.

An old Viator link for MaxTour is named the Two-Day Sunrise Tour, but today it opens a three-day itinerary, and neither published plan lists a sunrise stop. If you book the two-day tour, enjoy it for what it is: four landmarks with a hotel night.

What is the one-day sunrise tour like?

Long: about 18 hours, starting at midnight, with roughly 40 minutes at each of two Grand Canyon stops, then Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon.

You sleep in the van on the way out. Guests say the dawn arrival makes the photos, and that guides keep up regular food and bathroom breaks. Meals and tips are extra, and so is the $100 non-resident park fee.

Which tour gives the most time at the rim at sunrise?

The Grand Canyon overnight: you sleep in Tusayan, a few minutes from the park, and spend about six hours at the South Rim on day two.

The trade-off is that it skips Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend. It offers tent camping or a three-star hotel, and the listing says you can rise early for sunrise at the rim.

Can I get a sunrise and Antelope Canyon on one trip?

Yes: the Grand Circle two-day visits Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend and Monument Valley on day one, sleeps near the park and starts day two with a Grand Canyon sunrise.

It costs more, from about $749, and starts at 2:00 AM, but it is the only two-day option here that lists a Grand Canyon sunrise in its itinerary. Lunch on day one, the hotel and admissions are included.

What time is sunrise at the Grand Canyon?

Roughly 5:15 AM in June and around 7:30 AM in December; Arizona stays on Mountain Standard Time all year.

Tours plan around the season, so the pickup time on your voucher tells you how early you will be up. Bring a warm layer: the rim sits around 7,000 feet and dawn is the coldest moment of the day.

Is a sunrise guaranteed?

No. Clouds, smoke or storms can hide it, and tour listings say so.

A clear sky is common in dry months, but no operator can promise the view. If it clouds over, you still get the canyon itself.

Is sunset a better bet?

For many visitors, yes: sunset needs no midnight start, and some guests on overnight tours have caught it at the rim.

No tour here guarantees either, but if you only care about golden light, a later rim stop is easier on the body. Read one day vs two days for how much rim time each format gives you.

Frequently asked questions

Does the MaxTour two-day tour see sunrise?

Its published itinerary does not include one; night one is in Page or Flagstaff, two to three hours from the rim.

Which rim do the sunrise tours visit?

The South Rim. The North Rim is far from Las Vegas tours and was closed for the 2025 season after the Dragon Bravo Fire.

Is it cold at sunrise?

Often. Even in summer, dawn at 7,000 feet can be chilly, and in winter it is below freezing.
